Working Holiday Visa holders now have more options to extend their stay

The Department has broadened the conditions for Working Holiday Makers (WHM) (subclass 417 and 482 visa holders) to allow them to assist in the bushfire recovery without breaching visa conditions. WHM can now work with the same employer for up to 12 months (extended from 6 months) if they are assisting with bushfire recovery efforts.

In addition, paid and volunteer disaster recovery work in declared areas impacted in the recent bushfires will count towards the “specified work” needed to apply for second or third year 417 or 462 visas.

This is consistent with arrangements put in place for recovery efforts following other natural disasters such as Cyclones in the past.
